About UPSHA

Uttar Pradesh is the rainbow land where the multi-hued Indian Culture has blossomed from times immemorial. Blessed with a variety of geographical land many cultural diversities, Uttar Pradesh, has been the area of activity of historical heroes like-Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Mahavira, Ashoka, Harsha, Akbar and Mahatma Gandhi. Rich and tranquil expanses of meadows, perennial rivers, dense forests and fertile soil of Uttar Pradesh have contributed numerous golden chapters to the annals of Indian History. Dotted with various holy shrines and pilgrim places, full of joyous festivals, it plays an important role in the politics, education, culture, industry, agriculture and tourism of India .

Garlanded by the Ganga and Yamuna, the two pious rivers of Indian mythology, Uttar Pradesh is surrounded by Bihar in the East, Madhya Pradesh in the South, Rajashtan, Delhi, Himanchal Pradesh and Haryana in the west and Uttaranchal in the north and Nepal touch the northern borders of Uttar Pradesh, it assumes strategic importance for Indian deface.

Its area of 2,36,286, sq kms. Area wise it is the fourth largest State of India. In sheer magnitude it is half of the area of France, three times of Portugal, four times of Ireland, seven times of Switzerland, ten times of Belgium and a little bigger than England. Uttar Pradesh is the highest populated State of the union of India having a population of 166 Million (2001Census).

The economy of the Uttar Pradesh is Agriculture based and nearly 73 percent of the population is engaged in agriculture. Nearly 43 percent of the income of the State is from the agricultural sector. The average literacy in the State is 57 percent. (70.23 Percent Male and 42.98 percent Female).

U.P.S. HIGHWAYS AUTHORITY

U.P. State Highways Authority is constituted by UP act no. 19 of 2004 dated Aug’13, 2004 for the development, maintenance and management of state highways and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

U.P. State Highways Authority is planning to take up the construction of state highways and railway over bridges on Public-Private-Partnership basis. Govt. of India guidelines and experience of National Highways Authority of India has been taken as examples for taking up the works and framing the policy framework. The process for selection of consultants to undertake the preliminary project preparation for selected state highways and railway over bridges has been taken up for construction under PPP.

Governing Council

  • Member:
    • Minister Finance

    • Minister Planning

    • Chief Secretary

    • Principal Secretary (Finance, Planning, Public, Works Department)

    • Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department

    • Two nominated Experts

    • Chief Executive Officer of the Authority.

Executive Committee

Executive Committee headed by Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible for functions and exercise as prescribed or assigned to it by the governing council. It will consist of following members:
